The Contemporary Art of Visual Artist Michael Sprouse

CONTEMPORARY ICON PORTRAIT SERIES

Like a re-discovered, dusty, vintage journal or an enigmatic bit of paper torn from on old and mysterious map, these iconographic mixed-media paintings each tell a unique story that can only be created by the eye of the beholder.

Sprouse surrounds a traditional painted portrait (modeled after faces from his vast vintage photo collection) with a variety of ephemeral treasures from vintage books, magazines, old love letters, maps, announcements, newspapers and much more. The faces he has painted in these voluminous little works are purposefully composed to reveal only a portion of the model's face further accenting the mystique.

The following is just a small sample of works from this series that Sprouse produces in a variety of sizes on canvas. Many are available as fine art prints on his imagekind shop at www.sprouseart.imagekind.com.

These works are also available in a variety of galleries throughout the United States, or click on the contact link to inquire about availability.

"Art, as far as it is able, follows nature, as a pupil imitates his master; thus your art must be, as it were, God's grandchild. " - Dante Alighieri
